I've never blogged before but the website comes with the ability, so I thought I'd give it a try. I don't know if I'll keep it up, or how often, but I thought I'd start with this : A Lebanese doctor living in Tennessee treats Dolly Parton after an accident in Nashville. They become good friends. His son, who is a podcaster and thinks he might get a podcast out of it, asks his father to introduce him to her. He quickly realizes that he's going down so many rabbit holes that the podcast becomes a series of nine. It's estimated she's written over 5000 songs, but no one knows for sure because she's only published about 350. Now if you search for the most prolific song writer you get Irving Berlin, who published 1500, but if you count all Dolly's unpublished songs, she is very likely the most prolific of all time. In any case Dolly has recorded a lot of really good songs. In one rabbit hole he spends an entire podcast just on Jolene ... he talks to a guy who was Nelson Mandela's next-door cellmate in prison. At some point Nelson gets permission to play music over the loud speakers for the prisoners ... his choice ? ... Dolly singing Jolene. All of the podcasts are like that ... very interesting rabbit holes. I've never been a Dolly Parton fan, but I'll never look at her the same way again after that podcast. I highly recommend it ! It may be my all-time favourite podcast ... great stories, great songs ... you never know where he's going to end up but it's always captivating getting there.
And that's where the idea for this blog came from ... interesting rabbit holes ... no specific topic ...
